[ He's been squinting at his companion for the longest time, so once Klaus has settled next to him, he slides his glasses back on his face and props his head up by putting his ear in his hand and his elbow on the couch, shifting on his side to give Klaus more room. ]
Hahaha, oh man, for real? I know it's crazy, but it's kind of been a dream of mine! Capitalism is super important after all.. I'd love to somehow leave my mark all over the universes! I'd talk about stuff like this a lot, and nobody really took me seriously. I proved them wrong though, because I'm that awesome.
I never really considered this place a bad place even if it isn't home. It's a scientific breakthrough!
[It's really something to see the shift in Alfred's demeanor now that he's really comfortable around Klaus. He brings a hand over to brush through the blond's hair.]
Mmm, right -- you are still America, after all, so I guess all that makes sense.
[He shrugs.]
I don't know if I consider it a 'bad' place either. It's just a -- different place, even if I don't think they're telling us everything about how we got here in the first place.
[ He hums pleasantly when his hair is raked through. He hasn't wiped the smile off of his face yet and he really doesn't plan to. The warmth he's feeling he knows isn't just something lingering from his orgasm-- it's something else. ]
Yeah. It's really amazing. Sometimes I worry about back home, but it's so boring. Just paperwork.. and every four years I get a new boss, or keep the same one. It's always kind of an adjustment; sometimes their choices I don't like or agree with or they tell me to do something I don't like and yeah. It's weird.
I bet it's nice to be a human and live a whatever kind of lifestyle.
[Well, at least one of them is conscious of that feeling already -- Klaus is still doing his best to ignore it in one form or another with Alfred.
The words from the other man make sense once he considers them: so, the president more or less controls the country itself. That tracks, even if it's ... some sort of weird slavery?]
It -- sounds weird, man. And sure, I guess being human might be nice, but I don't have a lot to compare it to...and a lot of people still don't live a 'whatever' lifestyle. Just idiots like me, remember?
[Klaus -- well. He's got mixed feelings about what America's saying, because he gets why you'd want to die, and he even gets why Alfred would want to be heroic about it, but --]
-- you know, sometimes heroic deaths aren't all they're cracked up to be. Sometimes they really fuck up the people who live instead of you.
[He's thinking about -- Dave, of course, but he's also thinking about Ben, about how hard the whole damned Umbrella Academy had taken his death. It had reminded them they were all painfully mortal children, and it had been -- awful.]
Huh? Well, yeah. It's not like I'd purposefully find a way to kill myself off, but..
[ America has no idea who Klaus is thinking of specifically, but they've come across this conversation a lot, and he does know Klaus lost someone of importance. ]
I think you know this, but I just.. get tired of watching the people I love pass away knowing it's just going to keep on going on forever. It's kind of like a big pain in the ass, but I wouldn't want a flimsy death either. Just.. something really great so I can continue being something really great even after I'm gone.
[He ... really doesn't want to ruin the evening with something like fighting, especially with how great things had been going. He huffs out a breath of air and opts instead of getting worked up to just settle closer to Alfred, pressing his face into the other man's shoulder.]
I don't think you have to worry about anyone just forgetting about you. You've done a lot with your...self, you know?
[ Alfred knows that.. he's a pretty great guy! But still, there's that desire to become something greater.. do something even bigger. It's always on his list of aspirations to grow and become something amazing. It's all for praise and he's a glutton when it comes to having his ego stroked.
Either way, he's still warm and content and huddles against Klaus, tangling their limbs together, one arm draping over the other man. ]
I have. That's true. Oh.. and if it were to sometime happen, it can't happen anytime soon. 'Cause I still have to be here and protect you, so. Yeah. Maybe things are just better the way they are. I'd be okay with that.

[ America, why do you sound so happy about that. ]
Man, I'd love to die victoriously.. by doing something real heroic.. and be a person that a legend is made of.. save a bunch of people.
[ He's.. talking about this with stars in his eyes, please stop him. ]
It's time for everyone's favorite icon
